About

a photo of Juliet, short blonde hair in a multi-coloured traditional Chinese qipao looking off camera

London- and Shanghai-based coloratura soprano, author, librettist, and educator Juliet Petrus has built a singular career spanning over 25 years and three continents, remaining committed throughout to promoting diversity and cross-cultural communication through classical music. With a repertoire ranging from Baroque to contemporary works, she has won acclaim in standard Western operatic, concert, and recital repertoire, frequently appearing as the Queen of the Night and as soloist in Carmina Burana. Her specialisation in the performance, education, and research of Chinese art song and Mandarin lyric diction places her at the forefront of the movement to expand classical vocal repertoire beyond its traditional Eurocentric borders, while her work as a librettist looks to reshape the stories and voices heard on operatic stages in the 21st century.
